Prokaryotic Replication

Table of Contents

This section covers chromosome replication in E. coli which involves bidirectional replication from a single origin. Bidirectional refers to that fact that replication proceeds in both directions from the origin. In each direction a growing fork moves along the chromosome; each fork involves the separation of the double stranded helix so that the two separated strands can each be used as a template for the synthesis of a new stand. The first page (General features) covers some elements that are common to all DNA replication systems. The other three cover aspects that are specific to E. coli
